RUSSIANS BROUGHT ARSENAL TO SOUTH OSSETIA, WARNS GEORGIAN PREMIER. IT WAS CHARITY FREIGHT, ARGUES OSSET PRESIDENT

TBILISI/MOSCOW, June 12 (RIA Novosti) - 150 Russian army vehicles brought a stock of arms yesterday to the Tskhinvali Region, as Georgians officially refer to South Ossetia, unrecognised republic within Georgia. The alarming information came from Zurab Zhvania, Georgia's Prime Minister, today, as he was addressing the media in Tbilisi, Georgian capital.

There were five armoured infantry vehicles, several anti-aircraft installations, and a stock of munitions. Seven lorries remain stationed at a Russian peacekeeping base in the Georgian-Osset conflict zone, said the Premier.

President Eduard Kokoity of South Ossetia addressed a news conference in Moscow the same day to deny the news.

"It was a humanitarian cargo-no Russian soldiers have entered South Ossetia," he said.

Mr. Kokoity accused the OSCE of prejudice against his republic. In fact, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe has allied with Georgia.

"The OSCE and Georgia are coming out as allies to destabilise South Osset developments," he alleged-and caustically called Georgian authorities and OSCE observers to "mind their own business instead of counting up charitable cargoes bound for South Ossetia".

As the President pointed out, Georgia has not to this day dismantled strongpoints it established in the conflict zone without coordinating the matter with the Joint Control Commission.

Georgia introduced Interior troops to the village Tkviavi in the conflict zone, May 31, says a statement which recently appeared on the South Osset Information and Press Committee web site.

"Georgia is doing all in its power to unleash warfare in the conflict zone, and involve peacekeeping forces in it.

"Eight helicopters have appeared in the area alongside a Georgian Interior contingent, which unverified accounts estimate at a thousand," as the statement has it.

Georgia pulled out its troops after the Joint Control Commission intervened. The commission has been active in the Georgian-South Osset conflict zone since 1992.
