MOSCOW, January 11 (RIA Novosti) - An unknown attacker stabbed several people in a synagogue in downtown Moscow Wednesday.

The capital's Prosecutor's Office initially said that six people were injured in the attack, although later reports from other sources suggested the figure could be higher.

The attacker was detained by police. Senior officials from the Prosecutor's Office were on their way to the synagogue.

The Ekho Moskvy radio station quoted a representative of the synagogue as saying that eight people had been injured, including the Rabbi and the security chief.
