A new strain of Meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus, a so-called superbcaterium impossible to detect using standard methods, has been discovered by British scientists in cow’s milk.

A report on the new “superbacterium” has been published by a group of scientists headed by Professor Mark Holmes from Cambridge University in The Lancet journal.

It turned out, the new strain can be transmitted by both human beings and cows (while usually one strain can be only transmitted by one type of species). British microbiologists had found this out when they noticed that both people and cows were transmitting the same MRSA culture in different regions of Great Britain. The cases of infection with mecALGA251 Staphylococcus have also been registered in Denmark.
