Global warming was a natural process unrelated to human activities, a Russian climatology expert said on Wednesday during a video link-up between Russian and Chinese scientists.
The expert said climate change was a natural process as part of the long-term weather cycle.
"The millennium-long history of climate shows that the current climate change is a part of a cycle," Mikhail Rukin said.
Gao Zugui of the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations said that the global warming issue has been "extremely politicized."
"Various countries use the issue to raise their status in the global political architecture and take advantage of security and economy," he said.
The 15th UN climate change conference, a result of two-year international talks on a binding treaty to cut global carbon emission, began in the Danish capital of Copenhagen on Monday.
A new international deal is widely expected to be agreed during the talks in the Danish capital. The text of the deal, which was leaked to the British media, has already caused an international outcry.
The draft, dubbed "the Danish Text," vests the World Bank with financial control in issues related to climate change. It also fixes the emission quota for developing countries at 1.44 tons of carbons per person by 2050, while allowing developed countries to emit almost twice as much, 2.67 tons per person.
