The ecological problems of the Arctic, due to be discussed at The Arctic - Territory of Dialogue forum in Moscow, are of global interest, RIA Novosti's editor-in-chief said on Monday.
“The issue of ecology is very important for the Arctic, this is a fragile and vulnerable ecosystem… And our forum and the ecological issue in the Arctic is topical,” Svetlana Mironyuk said.
The forum has been organized by the Russian Geographical Society in association with the RIA Novosti news agency. It will be held in Moscow on September 22 and 23.
The event will focus on the challenges of climate change, the effects of human activity, issues concerning natural resources and ways to ensure sustainable development in the Arctic region.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Prince Albert II of Monaco, Iceland's President Olafur Grimsson, Canada's senior Arctic official and head of the Arctic Council Sheila Riordon, French ambassador to Russia Jean de Gliniasty, and other prominent politicians and experts on Arctic are expected to participate in the forum.
