RIA Novosti has become a member of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), thereby gaining the right to participate in shaping international web technology standards and to exchange experience in this area.
"To be most effective, W3C needs active participation from different organizations and individuals around the world." Says J. Alan Bird, W3C Global Business Development Leader. "We look forward to collaborating with news and information agency RIA Novisti and to its contributions to our activities as we expand our presence in Russia ".
By entering into this consortium, RIA Novosti will be able to join W3C working groups that are engaged in developing Internet standards. Moreover, it will gain access to the unique technological expertise of other members and will be able to share the results of its own development.
RIA Novosti has extensive experience in the integration and rapid online transmission of information to "smart devices": PDA, Android devices, iPad, smartphones, and Smart TVs. The agency also seeks to master other information formats that require both its own interfaces and specialized web protocols.
The knowledge and experience generated by more than 50 W3C working groups should assist RIA Novosti in introducing new information and news standards.
The W3C was founded in 1994 by Sir Timothy Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Currently, the Consortium includes 322 organizations from more than 20 countries which are engaged in different spheres of activity: financial institutions, commercial companies, software and hardware developers, programmers, IT and media companies, Internet companies and more. Its mission is to develop web protocols and guidelines for long-term web development.
W3C is interested in recruiting innovative high-tech companies for the purpose of sharing experience and for the joint development of new web standards and technologies. Its members include Facebook, the BBC, the Associated Press, IPTC, Comcast Cable Communications and others.
