September 28 morning preview
* Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov will meet with General Ali Habib, the head of Syria's General Staff.
* Delegates of the ninth conference of CIS education ministers will hold a news conference. An interstate exhibition, The CIS: Education 2005, will open (September 28 - October 1).
* InfoCom 2005, Russia's fifth international forum on Info-communications in the 21st Century, will open in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, and Irkutsk (September 28 - October 1).
* RIA Novosti will host:
- a news conference with director of the International Institute of Humanitarian and Political Research Vyacheslav Igrunov on the new power configuration in Ukraine (12:30 p.m.);
- a roundtable on the topic, Belarus prior to the presidential elections: paradoxes of the political struggle (1:00 p.m.);
- a news conference on the topic, The generation of responsibility is making its choice-The results of the first forum of young CIS and Baltic leaders-Prospects of the movement's development, with Akhmed Bilalov, chairman of the forum's organizing committee (3:00 p.m.).
* Murat Zyazikov, the president of Ingushetia (a Russian constituent republic in the North Caucasus) will give a news conference on the situation in the region during the first 100 days of his second term (11:00 a.m.).
* The Russian Investment Conference: A Key to Success, an annual Brunswick UBS conference, will open (September 28-30).
* The Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will host:
- a Russian-Greek business forum organized by the chamber and the Greek Embassy in Russia;
- a conference on the promotion of regional cooperation organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
* The Interfax news agency will host the following news conferences:
- with leaders of the Yabloko and Union of Right Forces parties Grigory Yavlinsky and Nikita Belykh on the upcoming elections to the Moscow Duma (10:30 a.m.);
- with Russian Presidential Envoy to the Central Federal District Georgy Poltavchenko and film director Nikita Mikhalkov on the reburial of General Anton Denikin and philosopher Ivan Ilyin (4:00 p.m.).
* An automatic device to aid the evacuation of people from the upper stories of a skyscraper will be presented (11:00 a.m.).
* The second world circus festival will open (September 28 - October 2).
KHABAROVSK
* The Far Eastern International Economic Congress, Horizons of Russia's Partnership with the Asia-Pacific Region: People, Nature, and the Economy, will continue. A conference, Natural Resources in the Far Eastern Economy, and a fair of Far Eastern products will be held during the congress.
KALININGRAD
* The inauguration ceremony of governor of the Kaliningrad region Georgy Boos will take place.
SOCHI
* The Kuban 2005 fourth international economic forum (September 28 - October 1) will open.
BEIRUT
* An international conference, The Role of Culture in Consolidating World Peace, involving Russian representatives will open (September 28-30).
