MOSCOW, May 31 (RIA Novosti) - The majority of Russians support the idea of the 2012 Olympics being held in Moscow, a new poll, held on April 18 - May 3, showed.

The poll, co-sponsored by the leading Russian cellular phone network INFON and ROMIR Monitoring, indicated that 95% of the respondents voting using their cellular phones are in favor of the Olympics coming to Moscow. Those who responded to the poll via the Internet were 80% for Moscow hosting, while those responding from other cities totaled 71%.

Moscow has received support from other cities around the country, something the International Olympic Committee (IOC) considers when choosing a host city.

Analysts say that there is high potential for development of cellular SMS-polls being further used in the polling industry.

According to INFON General Director Kirill Shramko, cellular polls may be the way of the future.

"SMS technology is a perspective modern and convenient way of communication with a target audience. Our company is further planning to regulate the conducting of SMS-polls for opinion research purposes. It's wonderful that cellular phones users turned out so patriotic," Shramko said.
