Svyazinvest telecoms giant says 1Q06 net profits down 31% y-o-y

MOSCOW, May 26 (RIA Novosti) - Svyazinvest, Russia's largest telecommunications holding, said Friday its aggregated net profits in the first three months of 2006 were 7.66 billion rubles ($283 mln), a 31% drop year on year.

Revenues went up by 14.1% year on year to 56.1 billion rubles ($2.1 billion), with sales revenues growing 11.7% to 14.4 billion rubles ($533 million) in the reporting period. Pre-tax profits stood at 10.3 billion rubles ($381 mln), the state-controlled company said.

The reporting period saw a year-on-year drop of 35% in company's investment, down to 4.5 billion rubles ($165 mln) from 6.9 billion rubles ($255 mln) last year.

The holding said the aggregate figures included results of seven interregional assets, in which it has a 51% stake, and of communications companies Rostelecom (51%), Kostroma GTS (37%), Central Telegraph (51%,) MGTS (28%), and Dagsvyazinform (51%).
