MOSCOW, July 4 (RIA Novosti) - Comstar United Telesystems (RTS: CMST, LSE: CMST) said Tuesday its general shareholders meeting had decided to pay 62 million rubles (about $2.3 million) in 2005 dividends and appointed a new board of directors.

"The general shareholders meeting decided to pay 62 million rubles before October 1, or 14.8 kopeks per common share," the Russian communications operator said in a news release.

The meeting, which had been held June 30, also approved a new board of directors, appointing Sergei Shchebetov, general director of Sistema Telecom, a telecommunications arm of major Russian holding AFK Sistema, chairman.

Comstar UTS is the largest multi-service communications operator in Moscow, Moscow Region, and some Russian regions and former Soviet republics.

The company was formed in November 2004 through a merger of Comstar, MTU-Inform and Telmos. Comstar UTS' main shareholder is AFK Sistema (RTS: AFKS), which has a 54.58% stake in the company.
