MOSCOW, December 11 (RIA Novosti) - The Federal Tax Service has served Russian communications provider North-West Telecom [RTS: SPTL] with a hefty back tax bill for 2003-04, the company said Monday.
North-West Telecom, the largest communications provider in Russia's Northwestern Federal District, said the claim of 583.6 million rubles ($22.5 million) includes 436.3 million rubles ($16.7 million) in back taxes, and 147.3 million rubles ($5.8 million) in penalties and fines.
The company said it will appeal the additional tax claim in court.
North-West Telecom (formerly St. Petersburg Telephone Network), whose licensed territory covers all of Russia's Northwest Federal District, with a population of 13.7 million, is 39.5% owned by telecoms giant Svyazinvest.
