MOSCOW, December 29 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that net capital inflow could total $40 billion in 2006.

"We have always been talking about capital outflow from Russia, $15, 20, 25 billion," Putin said at a meeting with Vagit Alekperov, head of Russia's No.1 oil producer LUKoil. "But this year we will have a net inflow, which is estimated at about $40 billion," he said.

A senior Central Bank official said in November that net capital inflow into Russia reached $25 billion in the first 10 months of 2006.

"The surplus on the capital operations account in the first 10 months of 2006 was $25 billion," First Deputy Chairman Alexei Ulyukayev said.
