ULYANOVSK, March 29 (RIA Novosti) - SABMiller, one of the world's leading brewers, plans to build a $170 mln brewery in the Ulyanovsk Region in the Volga area, the head of the company's Russian division said Thursday.

James Wilson, general director of the Kaluga brewery in central Russia, said the new facility will annually turn out 30 million decaliters of beer, including all key brands produced by SABMiller at its breweries elsewhere.

The Ulyanovsk brewery is expected to produce the first batch of beer in January 2009, with key products required for beer production being purchased locally, Wilson told a press conference in the regional administration.

The Ulyanovsk brewery will sell its products in the Volga area, Urals and Siberia, Wilson said.

In turn, Sergei Morozov, governor of the Ulyanovsk Region, said the new facility is a major investment project in the region expected to generate 800 million rubles (about $30.7 million) in tax revenues and create about 300 new jobs.

SABMiller, one of the world's largest brewers with brewing interests or distribution agreements in more than 60 countries over 5 continents, produces premium international beers such as Miller Genuine Draft, Peroni Nastro Azzurro and Pilsner Urquell, and also a range of market leading local brands. The company has been operating on the Russian market since 1998 when it purchased the Kaluga brewery.

The Ulyanovsk Region administration is expected to sign an agreement with SABMiller in the summer of 2007, the administration's press office said.
