MOSCOW, March 29 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's food safety watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, has reintroduced beef imports from Canada, the department's press service said Thursday.

"Rosselkhoznadzor has made a decision to resume the delivery of pedigree cattle from Canada to Russia," the press service said.

Beef deliveries will be permitted from all of Canada except for the British Columbia province. Under new agreements, an official from Rosselkhoznadzor's veterinary control department should take part in the selection and quarantine of cattle for export to Russia.

The decision to resume Canadian beef exports followed an improvement in the control of disease and BSE among cattle.

Simultaneously, Rosselkhoznadzor said Thursday it would introduce temporary restrictions on beef and poultry imports from certain German and Belgian farms from April 5.

The bans followed reports of salmonella in imports from Germany's DAZ 917 EWG and Belgium's BE E 2001 EEG/EG farms.

Similar limitations were imposed on some other German farms on March 6 and 15, 2007.

Rosselkhoznadzor has already addressed relevant departments in Germany and Belgium to investigate the infected beef and poultry exports to Russia and take preventive measures in the future.
