MOSCOW, March 30 (RIA Novosti) - The total volume of transactions with the participation of Russian companies on the mergers and acquisitions market in 2006 grew 41%, year-on-year, to $71 billion, Ernst & Young said Friday.

In particular, Russian companies spent $11.4 billion on acquisitions abroad.

According to the Ernst&Young report, in 2006 the M&A market in the Commonwealth of Independent States, a loose association of former Soviet republics, reached a new record high. The largest M&A market in the region is Russia, followed by Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

Acquisitions by foreign companies in Russia in 2006 grew 100%, to a record $13.7 billion.
