Non-resident stake in Russian banks' capital rises to 18.3% in 1Q

MOSCOW, May 28 (RIA Novosti) - The share of non-residents in the aggregate registered charter capital of Russia's credit institutions increased 2.42% in the first three months of 2007, to 18.32%, the Central Bank of Russia said Monday.

The aggregate registered charter capital of all credit institutions operating in Russia increased 8.8% in the reporting period, to 616.431 billion rubles (about $23.9 billion). Non-resident investment in the charter capital of Russia's credit institutions increased 25.3% in the first quarter of 2007, to 112.926 (about $4.4 billion), the CBR said on its Web site.

As of April 1, 2007, there were 158 credit institutions with non-resident stakes in Russia, of which 134 operated as joint stock companies and 24 as limited liability companies, the CBR said on its Web site.
