ATHENS, August 9 (RIA Novosti) - Russian gas supplies to Greece, halted following a Monday explosion at a pipeline in Bulgaria, have been resumed, a top executive of the Bulgargaz company said Thursday.

"The problem was fixed at 5:35 a.m. local time (2:35 a.m. GMT). Gas shipments have been resumed," Dimitar Gogov said.

The Bulgargaz executive director said it will take about a week to establish the causes of the blast, and then the matter of insurance compensation will be addressed.

The explosion did not affect local gas consumers, with more gas provided from a liquefied natural gas storage facility in Greece, while August is a low gas consumption season.

The blast, which occurred near the city of Blagoevgrad, in southwestern Bulgaria, was apparently caused by a gas leak. No casualties were reported.

Russian gas supplies to Greece via Bulgaria account for up to 80% of Greece's gas consumption, totaling around 2.7 billion cubic meters a year.
