Non-residents share in Russian banks to grow around 2% in H2

SOCHI, September 7 (RIA Novosti) - The Central Bank of Russia predicts non-residential shares in the aggregate registered charter capital of banks will edge 1-2% up in the second half of 2007 to some 22-23%, a spokesman said Friday.

Mikhail Sukhov, the licensing department director, said the share will increase slightly until mid-2008, which experts are attributing to the parliamentary and presidential elections, in December and March respectively.

Sukhov also said there will not be a large increase in the number of credit institutions placing shares on stock exchanges next year, and non-residents will most likely invest in the banking system by acquiring controlling stakes or through buying small packages to be subsequently sold.
