VLADIVOSTOK, December 18 (RIA Novosti) - South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries has launched a new 104,000-dwt tanker ordered by Russia's Primorsk Shipping Corporation (PRISCO), a company spokesperson said on Tuesday.
She said the Zaliv Amerika is a 1A ice class tanker according to DNV (Det Norske Veritas) classification, which enables it to operate in non-Arctic freezing seas.
The head tanker was given the name of the bay where the city of Nakhodka and PRISCO are located.
Construction of the Zaliv Amerika began in May 2007 and the tanker is due to be put into operation in January 2008.
PRISCO operates 20 tankers with an aggregate deadweight of 1,166,974 tons. Ice class vessels including large-capacity ones equipped for operation in freezing seas make up the core of the ñompany's fleet.
