TOGLIATTI, January 9 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's largest automaker AvtoVAZ reported on Wednesday a 6.2% year-on-year increase in domestic car sales in 2007 to an all-time high of 663,500.

"In 2007, AvtoVAZ sold 663,500 cars in Russia, a record number in the history of the company's operations on the domestic market. AvtoVAZ car sales in Russia in 2007 exceeded the 2006 figure by 38,500 vehicles, or 6.2%," the company said in a statement.

French carmaker Renault, which already owns 25% in AvtoVAZ, announced plans in late December to buy 25% plus one share in the plant based in the Volga city of Togliatti, and could sign a final deal on February 25, when the French firm will buy a 12.8% stake in AvtoVAZ. The remaining shares could be acquired in July, Russian business daily Vedomosti reported.
