ST. PETERSBURG, June 7 (RIA Novosti) - Royal Dutch Shell could join Gazprom's project to build a liquefied natural gas plant in northwest Siberia, the head of the Anglo-Dutch energy giant said on Saturday.

Jeroen van der Veer said he had signed a protocol earlier Saturday on the establishment of a working group for Shell's participation in the project with Gazprom's CEO Alexei Miller.

Asked about a possible timeframe for the plant's construction and its capacity, he said it was too early to make any comments on that yet.

The LNG plant on the Yamal Peninsula will process the resources of the South Tambeiskoye field.

Gazprom holds licenses to develop 26 Yamal fields (with total reserves exceeding 10 trillion cubic meters).

It plans to annually produce 250 billion cubic meters of gas there.
