Grain forum in St. Petersburg to discuss grain reserve management
Topic: World Grain Forum in St. Petersburg
MOSCOW, May 12 (RIA Novosti) - The World Grain Forum, to be held June 6-7 in St. Petersburg, will discuss mechanisms of managing global grain reserves, the president of Russia's Grain Union said Tuesday.
"There is a proposal to discuss a mechanism for managing the world's reserves of grain," Arkady Zlochevsky said, stressing that this management plays an important role in stabilizing the market.
Zlochevsky said stabilizing reserves is only possible through countries' joint efforts. "The forum's task is to harmonize processes, often contradictory, taking place on the world grain market," he said.
He also said: "The forum is a discussion site, and results of work will be raised at the G8 and other institutions."
Zlochevsky said Russia was the first to propose holding the forum, adding that over 50 Russian regions and agriculture ministers from more than 20 countries, as well as heads of a number of international organizations, including the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, World Bank, and the EBRD will attend.
