MOSCOW, May 15 (RIA Novosti) - Russia as one of the world’s largest grain producers should play a leading role in overcoming the global food crisis and creating a new grain market, the presidential chief of staff said.

In an interview with Vesti-24 Channel on Thursday, Sergei Naryshkin said ensuring food security was “key to leading the global economy out of the crisis.”

He said international organizations, in particular the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, should coordinate the efforts of all major grain producers to ensure “fair rules for all market players.”

Naryshkin said as of last year, Russia was among the world’s four largest grain exporters, which “is very important in itself, since grain accounts for about 40% of global food production.”
