MOSCOW, May 19 (RIA Novosti) - Russia intends to improve its export policy on the grain market and increase grain deliveries to Asia Pacific region countries, a first deputy prime minister has told a government daily.
“As one of our strategic tasks, we foresee the increase of grain supplies to the Asia Pacific Region countries. They are rapidly developing, populations there will grow in the years to come, and problems with food supplies will remain,” Viktor Zubkov told Rossiiskaya Gazeta in an interview published on Tuesday.
“We see our task on the grain market in supplying offer where there is demand,” he added.
Zubkov said Russia would consider establishing a Far East grain corridor that would “allow Russian grain to reach the Pacific Ocean.”
“We will propose mechanisms to stimulate private investment in creating large shipping terminals in the Far East,” he said.
Zubkov added that flours and cereals should also be included in the list of goods that have to reach the market.
He also said Russia was now the world’s fourth largest seller of grain and that this was the position from which the Russian delegation would approach discussions at the World Grain Forum in St. Petersburg June 6-7.
