MOSCOW, May 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's state savings bank Sberbank has confirmed its interest in buying a stake in the German automaker Opel and is now continuing talks with its partners and the German government.
A week ago, Sberbank chief German Gref said it was too early to speak about the size of the deal, but added that the bank would represent Russia's interests.
On Friday, a representative of Canada's Magna, which is seeking to buy a stake in Opel from General Motors in a consortium with Sberbank and GAZ, said the bank could receive a 35% package in the company.
He also said Magna would receive 20%, and GM 35% in the event of the deal being struck.
