MOSCOW, June 2 (RIA Novosti) - Security issues will be discussed at an international economic forum in St. Petersburg, to be held on June 4-6, a Russian deputy prime minister said Tuesday.
"I think discussions... will include issues going beyond purely financial or economic ones, I mean by this security issues," Sergei Ivanov told a RIA Novosti press conference.
The deputy premier said economic problems meant new threats to global security, citing terrorism, the spread of weapons of mass destruction, extremism and piracy.
"Such threats can only be fought against jointly, only by states uniting their efforts to prevent these threats from taking on a too destabilizing character," he said.
The St. Petersburg forum will gather representatives of the global political and business elite, economists and experts.
RIA Novosti is the forum's general information sponsor.
