Fiat plans to produce SUVs in Russia

Italian auto giant Fiat plans to launch production of off-roaders in Russia, the company's executive director said on Thursday.

MOSCOW, October 8 (RIA Novosti) - Italian auto giant Fiat plans to launch production of off-roaders in Russia, the company's executive director said on Thursday.

Sergio Marchionne met with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

The Russian premier said that off-roaders "are of high demand in Russia considering the amount of roads that yet have to be built in the country."

Russian car producer Sollers and Fiat set up the Fiat-Sollers joint venture in the Russian Republic of Tatarstan in June of 2008.

Sollers already produces the Fiat Albea, Dolbo and Ducato models.
