The Russian uranium mining company Atomredmetzoloto (ARMZ) plans to buy uranium assets in Namibia, the head of the company told journalists on Thursday.

He said that top managers of ARMZ and the state nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom, visited the country last week.

"We are interested in developing in Namibia and are working to buy uranium assets in this country," Vadim Zhivov said.

ARMZ manages all of Russia's uranium mining assets and also participates in production in the Central Asian Republic of Kazakhstan. It is owned by Atomenergoprom, which is part of Rosatom nuclear energy state corporation.

Namibia has 5% of the world's uranium ore.
