Severstal, Russia's largest steelmaker, has suspended production at its Sparrows Point plant in the United States due to falling prices and low demand for steel in the U.S., the company said on Wednesday.
The plant’s hot-end facilities will restart operations once market conditions improve, Severstal said, and its finishing facilities, including tin plating lines, will continue operating.
Severstal North America operates the Severstal Dearborn, Severstal Warren, Severstal Wheeling and Severstal Sparrows Point plants. The company produces hot-rolled strip, plate iron, cold-reduced steel sheet and polymer coated steel sheet.
