Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, Rosselkhoznadzor, has imposed restrictions on meat imports from 14 plants in six countries over banned or harmful substances found in their meat products, the watchdog said on Wednesday.

The restrictions have been imposed on two U.S. companies, three Spanish and three Dutch enterprises, four German plants and two companies from France and Poland.

In most cases, the Russian watchdog has detected listeria bacteria, salmonellas and oxytetracycline, the service said in a statement.

The watchdog said that consignments shipped before Sept. 28, would be allowed into Russia with obligatory laboratory checks.

The watchdog has also ordered tighter control over beef consignments imported from Moldova and Brazil due to high proportions of anaerobic and facultative anaerobic organisms.

Control was also increased on pork fat consignments from three Belgian companies, one Italian firm and in a beef consignment from Uruguay due to E.coli.
