The situation with bad debts in the Russian banking system will not deteriorate even if the world economy performs worse than expected, Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin said on Monday.

The situation with bad debts in the Russian banking system will not deteriorate even if the world economy performs worse than expected, Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin said on Monday.

"According to the data I have received from the central bank, which did a stress test for some banking groups, we are not expecting the situation to worsen," Kudrin told journalists on the fringes of an International Monetary Fund session.

Kudrin said that if global macroeconomic indicators deviate 10 percent from forecasts, the change will not influence the situation in Russia, including bad debts. But if the indicators deviate 20-30 percent, "we'll have to revise the scenario (of the development of the industry sector)".

The IMF said recently in a statement that the situation in the global banking system was improving but remains the Achilles' heel of global economic recovery and measures to diminish financial risks in developed and developing countries should be strengthened.
