Russian gas giant Gazprom and Polish oil and gas company Polskie Gornictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA (PGNiG) plan to construct gas-powered electric power plants in Poland and develop gas deposits in Russia, the Polish paper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reported on Thursday.

Gazprom head Alexei Miller and PGNiG Chairman Michal Szubski met in Warsaw on Monday to discuss the prospects for partnership.

"The Russian side would like to build gas electric power plants in Poland in cooperation with PGNiG. Investments will be made either by EuRoPol Gaz (a joint venture of Gazprom and PGNiG) or by other joint ventures... It is not a secret that our power system's requirements are huge," the paper quoted Szubski as saying.

The paper reported that PGNiG also intended to enter the Russian gas exploration and production market as an investor or contractor.

"PGNiG's subsidiaries, for example, Poszukiwania Nafty i Gazu Krakow, may participate in the exploration and development of natural resources in Russia," Szubski said, adding that preparations for the projects in Russia and Poland would be synchronized.
