Russia's car production jumped by an estimated 92.6% over the previous year in 2010 to 1.15 million cars, the Trade and Industry Ministry said in its annual report on Monday.

Russia's car production jumped by an estimated 92.6% over the previous year in 2010 to 1.15 million cars, the Trade and Industry Ministry said in its annual report on Monday.

"In 2011, as the initial demand for cars is met, car output is expected to edge up 1%," the report added.

That figure was boosted by a government 'cash for clunkers' program which gave buyers of domestically produced cars a rebate on the cost of their new vehicle if they traded in an older model.

Truck production grew by an estimated 66.5% in 2010 to 67,000 vehicles. Truck output is expected to rise 5.4% in 2011 compared to the previous year, the report said.

"The truck market showed a significant growth in sales last year, largely driven by the state purchase program. Domestic truck makers were able to retain their dominant position in the structure of sales in this market segment. Imports grew largely due to an increased demand for truck tractors used in international transportation," the ministry report said.

Bus production rose 38% to 13,000 buses in 2010 and is expected to increase 4% in 2011, the report said.

Light commercial vehicle production rose 58% to 105,000 vehicles in 2010, according to the ministry's data.
