Russia's energy giant Gazprom increased gas supplies to Europe in April 2011 by 20.5 percent on the same month last year, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said on Tuesday.

Gazprom's daily gas supplies to non-CIS countries this May are exceeding last year's level by 27.8 percent, Miller said.

"Gazprom's gas export volumes this May are virtually matching its winter volumes. The request for today's supplies is almost 500 million cubic meters. The volumes of gas supplies are increasing along with the demand for gas in Europe," Miller said.

"In the first quarter, we supplied 12.4 percent more gas to non-CIS countries than in January-March 2010 while April registered a growth of 20.5 percent year on year," he said, adding that the growth in the demand for gas supplied by Gazprom was becoming a steady trend.

Alexander Medvedev, head of Gazprom Export, said that the gas giant expected overall export revenue at $72.4 billion this year. Medvedev said gas sales in Western Europe were expected to be higher than expected due to the launch of gas supplies through the Nord Stream gas pipeline in the fourth quarter of 2011.
