Russia's sanitary watchdog Rospotrebnadzor is to allow imports of vegetables from all European Union states from August 8, overturning a ban imposed after the E.Coli scare in June, chief sanitary doctor Gennady Onishchenko said on Friday.

"We may lift all restrictions on Monday," Onishchenko told RIA Novosti.

Russia introduced the embargo on June 2 after E.Coli bacteria, traced to vegetables, killed at least 40 people in Europe.

After the source of infection was identified and the EU took measures to prevent the supply of infected vegetables to Russia, the service lifted the ban on vegetable imports from several EU countries.

As of today Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, the Czech Republic, Poland, France, Hungary and Italy are all permitted to sell vegetables to Russia.
