A U.S. court has frozen $1 million in the account of a music promotion firm, in response to a lawsuit by a Russian TV channel which is claiming compensation over a canceled Moscow concert by popular singer Lady Gaga, RAPSI agency reported on Wednesday.

The court ruling, a copy of which was obtained by RAPSI, says that the funds were frozen as in response to the lawsuit filed by ZAO TV Service known in Russia as Muz-TV against NWE Talent Agency & Management Company.

Muz-TV filed the lawsuit on January 26, claiming that it attempted to book the popular American singer through Miami-based New Wave Entertainment to perform at the Muz-TV awards ceremony in June 2012.

"ZAO TV Service (Muz-TV) and the American NWE Talent Agency & Management Company reached agreement that the U.S. side would organize the arrival and concert by Lady Gaga in Moscow at the Muz-TV awards ceremony in June 2012. The Russian side paid the necessary reservation deposit but the Americans could not guarantee the concert on the date for the channel," Muz-TV said in a statement.

New Wave Entertainment claimed it had connections to Lada Gaga to organize the tour but failed to secure the singer’s performance in Moscow, despite receiving a $1.5 million advance.

"As a result, ZAO TV Service has applied to a court in Florida, U.S.A., with a lawsuit against the agent company to return the reservation deposit and compensate for losses suffered by the TV channel," Muz-TV said.

According to the plaintiff, the U.S. company has already withdrawn $450,000 from the account as a brokering fee, following which the TV channel requested the court to freeze the remaining $1.05 million.

The court agreed with the plaintiff’s arguments and met its request.
