MOSCOW, June 11 (RIA Novosti) – Russian nuclear power corporation Rosatom is ready to build nuclear power plants in Brazil and finance nuclear power projects there, a deputy CEO said Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro.
“If the Brazilian government shows interest, Rosatom is ready to discuss projects for building and operating Russia-designed nuclear power plants and also act as an investor,” Kirill Komarov, deputy CEO for international business and development, said at a seminar on Rosatom’s global expertise in the development and application of nuclear technologies.
Brazilian firm Eletrobras plans to build four to eight nuclear power plants in the country by 2030.
“If Brazil decides to support private investors, we are available. But this is a decision of the Brazilian government,” Komarov said at the event, attended by representatives of Brazil’s mining and energy, and science and technology ministries, according to a press release.
Rosatom is currently implementing projects for the construction of 28 nuclear power plants, 19 of which are abroad, with ongoing projects in India, China, Belarus, Turkey and Vietnam. Rosatom’s order book is about $70 billion over a 10-year period, the firm’s website says.
