WASHINGTON, July 2 (RIA Novosti) – Saipan, the largest island in the far flung US territory of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, is attracting the attention of Russian investors, The Marianas Variety reported.

While exact figures have not been disclosed by the local government, Russian investments on the island of 48,220 people are said to be over $15 million and rising - attributed to an increase in tourism from the east, which has seen visitors placing their money in local businesses.

Igor Karapetyan, a real estate investor originally from Moscow told The Marianas Variety that Russians are watching business development on Saipan very closely.

“So far, potential investors like what they see… a welcoming environment, a business-friendly culture, low taxes and a government that understands the importance of bringing in outside money,” said Karapetyan.
