Deeper Than Oil: World War Three has already begun
Weekly column by Marc Bennetts
Last week’s clash between South and North Korea was the start of World War Three, which will last until 2014 and involve the use of both nuclear and chemical weapons.
At least that’s what many in the Russian Internet community have been saying, their gloomy analysis of events on the Korean Peninsula inspired by the predictions of a blind Bulgarian psychic by the name of Vanga, who died in 1996 at the age of 85.

Marс Bennetts
The clairvoyant is extremely popular in Russia and her prophecies are often picked up by tabloids after major disasters. One of her most famous predictions was made in 1980, when she said: “At the turn of the century, in August of 1999 or 2000, Kursk will be covered with water, and the whole world will weep over it.”
Two decades later, in August 2000, the Russian nuclear submarine, the Kursk, sank to the bottom of the Barents Sea with the loss of all 118 hands on board.
Vanga is thought to have lost her sight at the age of 12 in mysterious circumstances – some reports say she was picked up and dashed to the earth Wizard-of-Oz style by a tornado. In 1941, after falling into a long trance, she began to speak of things that had not yet come to pass. She also began telling people where their relatives were, and if they were still alive.
Her fame quickly grew, and legend has it that when Hitler paid her a visit after the occupation of Bulgaria by Nazi forces she told him: “Leave Russia in peace! You will lose this war!”
She also seems to have forecast the 9/11 attacks, saying in 1989: “Horror, horror! The American brethren will fall after being attacked by the steel birds. The wolves will be howling in a bush, and innocent blood will gush.”
Not quite as clear cut as her other forecasts that one. The “horror, horror” bit is a nice touch though.
Vanga said that she received her information from a “non-human” voice. She also claimed that the lives of everyone she met were set out in front of her, from start to finish “like a film.” As well as this, she declared that she had been visited by extra-terrestrials from the planet Vamfim, describing them as “beautiful and slim.”
But just as you begin to write her off as a lunatic, consider this, from the 1950s. Was she simply lucky with her forecasts?
“Cold regions will become warm…and volcanoes will awaken. A huge wave will cover a big coast covered with people and towns, and everything will disappear beneath the water.”
Despite her direct hits (researchers from the University of Sofia estimate she was accurate with 85% of her predictions), her popularity in Russia is undoubtedly partly down to her prophecy that the country will again become a great global power. Perhaps, even, the only power.
“Everything will melt, just like ice. Only one thing will remain untouched – the glory of Vladimir, the glory of Russia…No one can stop Russia,” she told a Soviet writer in the late 1970s. She didn’t specify which Vladimir - Lenin or the former KGB agent who would succeed Yeltsin - she was referring to.
But back to World War Three.
According to Vanga, the conflict will start in November 2010 and will initially see war waged with conventional weapons, before nuclear and chemical options are brought into play. Things pretty much go downhill from there as far as humanity is concerned, with radiation fallout wiping out all animal and plant life in the northern hemisphere. As if that wasn’t grim enough, Muslims armed with even more chemical weapons then begin to hunt down the surviving Europeans.
By 2016, she predicted, Europe will be a wasteland, almost entirely devoid of any form of life.
Reading her predictions, it’s hard not to feel both simultaneously spooked (I’m writing this just after the U.S. has announced plans to send the world’s largest aircraft carrier to the Korean coast, a move China has criticized) and inspired to write science-fiction for a living.
For 2088, with the world back on its feet and Muslims ruling Europe, Vanga spoke of the start of a new illness; one that causes people to age decades in just seconds. This disease is eventually conquered in 2097.
Terminator becomes a reality in 2111, when people become cyborgs, but this is nothing compared to the events of 2183, when a colony on Mars gains nukes and starts demanding independence from Earth.
Her list of predictions continues until 5079, when the world ends. She doesn’t say how, but it looks as if it may have had something to do with the discovery of the boundaries of the universe three years earlier and the subsequent controversial decision (40% will be against it) to venture beyond, into the great unknown.
Oh…I almost forgot. For 2008, Vanga predicted the “assassination of four heads of state and conflict in south Asia, which will be one of the causes of World War Three.”
As far as the second part goes, the Mumbai attacks led to some saber-rattling between nuclear-armed Pakistan and India. As for the first prediction, there were four unsuccessful attempts on the lives of world leaders in 2008. Namely, the heads of East Timor, Afghanistan and the Maldives. And a “white supremacist plot” to rub out Obama.
Does that count? Or was Vanga wrong, and we can all rest easy and get on with making plans for the New Year?

From lurid tales of oligarch excess to scare stories about Moscow’s stranglehold on Europe’s energy supplies, the land that gave us Roman Abramovich and Vladimir Putin is very rarely out of the news. But there is much more to modern Russia than billionaire tycoons and political conspiracy. Marc Bennetts’ weekly column, Deeper Than Oil, goes beyond the headlines to explore the hidden sides of the world’s largest, and often strangest, country.
Marc Bennetts is a journalist (The Guardian, The Observer, BBC Russia, New Statesman and more) and the author of Football Dynamo: Modern Russia and the People’s Game (Virgin Books). He is currently working on a book about Russia’s fascination with the occult.

could believe this drivel is more a comment on them and their society. - arnoldvinette@yahoo.comVanga and her interesting future predictions21:15, 29/11/2010A very interesting article by Marc Bennetts on the predictions of a blind Bulgarian psychic by the name of Vanga, who died in 1996 at the age of 85.
Until Marc Bennetts wrote about Vanga I had not heard of her in the west.
With regards to some of Vanga's predictions I can collaborate my own with hers.
On one thing we do agreed is that Russia will become one of the world's primary super powers.
I live in North America and do not make this comment lightly. However I have foreseen the end of the North American continent on august 17, 2028 due to an asteroid strike in the area of Yellowstone National Park in the United States that will destabilize the Yellowstone Super Caldera resulting in one of the largest volcanic eruptions in history.
This premonition was felt on June 12, 2009 while on a train traveling from Sunnyvale to San Francisco California. After the premonition was experienced newly elected American President Barack Obama, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev were notified.
Why would Russian President Dmitry Medvedev be notified?
Because in my premonition Russia is to be the safest place to be during this apocalypse event. Specifically between Yoshkar-Ola and Kirov. This is where Russia, Canada and the United States have been told to build their asteroid fallout shelters and to stock them with 50 years of food supplies to get through the worst of the crisis.
Arnold the year of 2078 the descendents of the asteroid fallout shelters will emerge to repopulate Russia and then slowly expand back to North America.
North America (the United States and Canada) are to be destroyed by the combination asteroid impact and volcanic eruption of the Yellowstone Super Caldera.
North America will be repopulated in 2128 based on my own premonition. The new country is to called RusCanAmerica in honor of the descendents of these three remaining countries, Russia, Canada and the United States.
The primary language is to be a hybrid of Russian English.
So with regards to Vanga and my premonition she is right, Russian society and culture will flourish in the next 118 years.
My own premonition has two check points. In 2024 my incoming asteroid will be spotted by astronomers around the world. In 2026 the impact site will be determined as Yellowstone National Park. Both of these predictions must come true for the asteroid prediction to come true.
Like Vanga I have a very long history of accurate premonitions coming true. However this is the first time that I have ever had a premonition of a disaster and known specific dates. Knowing a specific date has never happened to me before rather it is a sense that something will happen at a future date.
“Cold regions will become warm…and volcanoes will awaken. A huge wave will cover a big coast covered with people and towns, and everything will disappear beneath the water.”
This is an interesting prediction of current global warming and active volcanoes. The huge wave that will cover a big coast covered with people and towns could easily describe an asteroid impact in either the Atlantic or Pacific ocean. Very generic though. These events have already happened numerous times in the past and will occur in the future.
Over the past 10,000 years the Earth has been struck numerous times by large asteroids that have seriously affected human culture on the planet.
Two future modern events not mentioned by Vanga include:
1) Future European Ice Age of 2060
The warming of the arctic and Greenland Ice Sheet may result in the failure of the gulf stream by 2060. If this happens as it has done so in the past Europe will be plunged into a mini ice age.

2) Solar storm in 2012 & 2013. Every 50 years or so the sun becomes particularly active with solar storms. In 1859 the world experienced what was thought to be a 500 year event when a huge Coronal Mass Ejection from the sun wreaked havoc on the new technology of telegraph wires.
These events are thought to peak every 150 years or so with 50 year intervals. This is a great article on the history of solar flares. The sun follows an observed 11 year cycle. The peak of this next cycle is 2012 to 2013.
There is a significant fear that at the next solar maximum in 2012 to 2013 the electrical power distribution and transformer systems all over the earth will be disabled and destroyed by the magnetic surge.

A Google search on the Solar Storm of 1859 will bring up theses articles.
A video documentary also highlights the concern of a 2009 US research paper with the same findings that the year 2012 to 2013 could be very damaging in terms of solar magnetic activity on the Earth due to Solar Coronal Mass Ejections.

3) And of course there is the end of the oil age in 2030. By the year 2016 oil and natural gas will be in short supply creating a dramatic spike in oil and natural gas prices. World tensions will be increasing from 2016 to 2030 as our oil age ends.
Without a doubt Vanga's predictions for world wide conflict around 2016 are VERY real.
A very good article on this is:
Life After the Oil Crash
www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net
World War 3 beginning in November 2010 as forecast by Vanga.
The current military action by North Korea and South Korea and now involving the Untied States naval group “George Washington” could indeed be the beginning of World War III if both sides continue to inflame the situation. South Korea from all the news reports I have read sounds bound and determined to get a conflict started with North Korea.
North Korea is not the problem South Korea is.
Is South Korea being prompted by the United States to start hostilities with North Korea and why?
North Korea's nuclear program is not a threat to the United States nor its energy supply so why the interest?
What is to be gained?
The weeks ahead in December 2010 will show how this conflict will evolve. Without a doubt though South Korea is definitely asking for a fight with North Korea.
The beginnings of World War III may have begun as Vanga has foretold on the Korean Peninsula. It just seems an odd location because it is not energy related for the United States.
Nevertheless a very interesting article by Marc Bennetts on the predictions of a blind Bulgarian psychic by the name of Vanga, who died in 1996 at the age of 85. With an 85% success rate Vanga is hard to ignore.
Every day people all over the world receive premonitions of future events. The human mind is very sensitive to electrical energy patterns that may pass back through time to be perceived as premonitions of future events and passed forward through time as recalled memories. The electrical energy patterns would be created by human brain activity at a future point in time.
I have often wondered why I can sense future events and this is the only explanation I have come up with. All humans on earth have this premonition capability, with some people being more sensitive than others. The next time you have a premonition, write it down and see how accurate you are.
