MOSCOW, July 30 (RIA Novosti) - Eight people were injured early on Thursday when a Mercedes van collided with a MAZ truck in the Moscow Region, a police source said.

The source said the van's driver and passengers received injuries. "As a result of the traffic accident, three people were hospitalized with injuries, another five given medical assistance," the source said.

Russia has seen seven major traffic accidents for the past two weeks, with over 30 killed and 60 wounded.

Russia's highway network is one of the world's longest, but only 20% of regional roads meet international safety standards.
