Moscow student dies after jumping from sixth floor to escape fire
© digital cat MOSCOW, August 31 (RIA Novosti) - A Moscow student who was hospitalized on Sunday after jumping from the sixth-floor to escape a fire at a halls of residence has died in hospital, a police source said on Monday.
The fire at the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering's hall of residence on Yaroslavskoye Shosse in the northeast of the capital broke out just before 3:00 a.m. on Sunday (23:00 Saturday GMT).
After a 40-square-meter room on the sixth floor caught fire, two young women jumped out of a sixth-floor window, and received severe injuries.
One of them later "died in hospital without regaining consciousness," the source said. She has not yet been identified.
The cause of the fire is being investigated. Negligence is suspected.
