CHISINAU, October 15 (RIA Novosti) - Fifteen people were injured as an unidentified explosive device detonated in the center of Moldova's capital Chisinau, the ex-Soviet state's Interior Ministry said Thursday.
"Fifteen were injured, no one was killed. The explosion occurred on Wednesday at 23:30 Moscow time [19:30 GMT] during City Day celebrations," spokeswoman Alla Meleka said.
She said there are two main versions of what happened, and added that explosives experts are heading to the site to establish what exactly caused the blast.
"This could have been the explosion of high-power fireworks or a grenade. Police are questioning eyewitnesses," Meleka said.
