BUENOS AIRES, October 24 (RIA Novosti) - At least 10 people died and another 12 were injured in Venezuela as a passenger bus collided with a truck near the country's capital Caracas, the Globovision TV channel said.

"The accident occurred on the 10th kilometer of the highway between Caracas and Guarenas. An intercity bus collided with a truck and overturned. Eight people died on the site, another two passengers died on the way to the hospital," Caracas rescue service spokesman William Martinez said.

"Twelve injured have been hospitalized, some of them in serious condition," he said, adding that the death toll may rise, as about 30 passengers could have been inside the bus.

According to a preliminary version, the truck driver is to blame for the tragedy. It was not immediately clear whether he was injured.

Annually, thousands of people die on Venezuelan roads because of poorly maintained vehicles, bad road conditions, speeding, as well as drunk drivers.
