ST. PETERSBURG, November 13 (RIA Novosti) - Two people have died in a fire at a residential building in Russia's northern capital of St. Petersburg, an emergency services spokesperson said on Friday.
One woman died after falling from a window on the sixth floor of the burning building, while the body of a man was found in a bathroom in one of the flats.
The fire broke out at 9:45 (18:45 GMT) on Thursday in the Vyborg district of the city.
Ten people were evacuated during the blaze, the spokesperson said.
Over 30 firefighters were involved in tackling the fire.
According to Russia's emergency services, 15,165 people died in fires across the country in 2008, including 584 children. On average, 42 people die daily in Russia in fires. In the U.S., with a population over twice as large, the figure is around 3,400 deaths a year.
