A bus with 52 passengers, swerved off the road at high speed and overturned near the town of Calamarca. The crash occurred on the highway linking the capital La Paz and the city of Oruro, some 57 km (35 miles) from the capital.
"Two men and four women died on site. 46 people were hospitalized with injuries of varying degrees," a road police spokesman, Isaac Pomari, said.
The cause of the accident is being established.
Last year 1,000 people were killed and 13,500 injured in road accidents in Bolivia. In late September, 15 people died and 50 were injured when two buses collided near the same town.
