A house fire in Russia's Far East has left seven people dead, a spokeswoman for the Primorye Region's Investigation Committee said.
Avrora Rimskaya said the house fire was reported in the early morning hours on Wednesday in the village of Tavrichanka.
"After the fire was extinguished, the burned bodies of seven people were discovered," Rimskaya said.
She added that investigators are at the scene to determine the reason for the fire and a medical group is attempting to identify the bodies.
According to Russia's emergency services, 15,165 people died in fires across the country in 2008, including 584 children. On average, 42 people die daily in Russia in fires. In the U.S., with a population over twice as large, the figure is around 3,400 deaths a year.
