Russian Investigation Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin confirmed the information that Former Moscow Region first deputy prosecutor Alexander Ignatenko accused of protecting a vast underground casino ring was detained on Monday in Poland.

ABW (Poland's internal security agency) officers detained on Monday former Moscow Region first deputy prosecutor who was put on the international wanted list in November 2011, Polish radio station RMF FM reported.

Ignatenko came to Poland with a passport of a Lithuanian citizen to meet his wife and a child.

“Today we got the confirmation that Alexander Ignatneko who was on the international wanted list was detained in Poland,” said Markin.

“If Poland agrees to hand over Ignatenko he will be handed to investigators of Russian Investigation Committee and taken into custody,” Markin added.

In spring of 2011 police uncovered illegal casinos outside Moscow. Moscow Region prosecutor Alexander Mokhov, deputy prosecutor Alexander Ignatenko and several others have been suspended after police found evidence that they "hushed up" an illegal gambling ring.
