Convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, who has been sentenced to 25 years in a U.S. jail, said on Thursday he would not admit his guilt or agree to any other deals or compromises with U.S. justice.

Convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, who has been sentenced to 25 years in a U.S. jail, said on Thursday he would not admit his guilt or agree to any other deals or compromises with U.S. justice.

“Why should I plead guilty? I have not committed any crime,” Bout said, speaking by phone from his Brooklyn cell during a video link with his wife between New York and Moscow organized by RIA Novosti.

“This is an issue of principle,” he said. “I will not agree to any deals [with prosecutors] and will not make any pleas.”

On April 5, a U.S. court sentenced Bout to 25 years in jail for conspiring to kill U.S. citizens and sell arms to Colombian militants.

Bout's defense is preparing to file an appeal against his sentence, while Moscow has promised to push for his return to Russia.
