Opposition activist Leonid Razvozhaev was detained in Kiev on Sunday and sent to Moscow where he has been formally placed under arrest, State Duma Deputy Ilya Ponomarev said.
Razvozhaev, an aide to Ponomarev, has been arrested for two months, over charges of "preparing organization of mass disorder," as a result of information disclosed in the film "Anatomy of a Protest 2" shown recently on Russia's NTV channel. He had been placed on an international wanted list over the charges.
The film alleged opposition protest leaders had met with foreign activists and received payments and were preparing violent acts in a bid to start a revolution.
While he was in Kiev, Razvozhaev had requested political asylum at the office of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, but when he left the building he was seized by unknown people.
"Razvozhaev was sent to [Moscow's] Basmanny Court and was, in the absence of a lawyer, formally arrested for two months," Ponomarev said in his Twitter microblog.
