MOSCOW, February 9 (RIA Novosti) - St. Petersburg law enforcers held a special operation on Friday detaining about 300 people suspected of distributing terrorism- and extremism-related information and violating migration laws, the Russian Investigative Committee said on Saturday.

The committee said in a statement that among the detained were foreign citizens, particularly from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Egypt and Afghanistan.

“Ten of the detained people had forged documents, 20 had no documents at all and six were previously subjected to deportation from Russia,” the statement said.

The committee also said that among the detained was Murat Sarbashev from Russia’s republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, who is suspected of distributing extremism-oriented literature on the internet between 2010 and 2011 as well as posting video clips that showed terrorist attacks.
